2015-08-02 Pastors CornerThis past week, our Bible reading schedule had Sue and me in final third of Acts. When we came to Chapter 18, I was reminded of eight traits that made the Apostle Paul such a great shepherd of souls. I invite you to pray for these qualities in the life of your pastor and Elders. Pray them for your own life as well. D. L. Moody said, “Every great movement of God can be traced to a kneeling figure.”  Those who lead will stand taller, stronger and longer if the people of the people of the church are on their knees in prayer.

Each of these statements from Paul comes from verses 17 to 38 if you’d like to read them in context. Paul was …

  1. Consistent: “You know how I lived the whole time I was with you
  2. Compassionate: I served the Lord with great humility and with tears
  3. Conscientious: I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you
  4. Compelled: And now, compelled by the Spirit
  5. Committed: I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me
  6. Courageous: I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God.
  7. Circumspect (He could command other to do be watchful, because he had): Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers.
  8. Christ-like: In everything I did … remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

CBC has a new Pastor!

Pastor Jon Wiziarde has been called to be the Senior Pastor at Coronado Bible Church.  Pastor Jon and his wife Sue began serving CBC as the respective interim pastor and music leader in September 2013.  After an extensive search, the Pastoral Search Committee voted unanimously to call Pastor Jon to our pulpit and the church members voted overwhelmingly in favor of the call in an affirmation vote on April 27th.  We now look forward to Pastor Jon leading CBC in this new season and to accomplishing the kingdom work God has planned for CBC here in Panama.

Pastor Tim and Ellen Going Away Party

It was an exciting evening with fun, fellowship and love.  Many stories where shared and  several tears shed.   CBC wants to thank both Tim and Ellen for all they have done for God’s church over the past 4 years and we ask and pray for the Lord’s blessing on them as they continue the journey that God has laid out for them.  Please go to the photo gallery to see all the excitement.

CBC Lend’s a Helping Hand at the Word Of Life Summery Camp

The Word Of Life (WOL) organization has a tremendous presence here in Panama.  Every Panama summer for six weeks put on their camp for the youth through out Panama.  Each week WOL hosts anywhere from 150 to 250 campers.  Some have rarely been outside their village.  It is a great opportunity to present the Word of God and his saving grace through his Son Jesus.  CBC is please to have the opportunity to lend a helping hand.  Several members of CBC provide support from providing crafts, life guard services at the pool, helping prepare and cook meals, to providing nursing duties where there are cuts and bumps.  Pictures are available on our Photo Gallery.  Please pray for the blessing of our great outreach partner, Word Of Life, and for all the campers and staff during the remaining weeks.

CBC Helping Raise Money for Word Of Life Camp Scholarships

It is summer time in Panama and school is out.  That means starting tomorrow and for the next six weeks over 1200+ children total will be attending Word Of Life’s summer camp.  Here children will be presented with the Gospel of Jesus.  While the gospel is central and key for the camp, the youths will have the opportunity to swim, play football (soccer), basketball, arts and crafts and just be kids.

In a continued effort to support our valued outreach partners, the CBC Mission team set out to raise enough money to send 40 youths to the camp.  Our efforts were greatly blessed and many in our church and several outside felt the calling and donated well above our hopes.

It is with great pleasure to say that with God’s help we were able to raise over $1700 and we will be able to send at least 80 youth to the Word Of Life camp.  About half that number will be the children from the school in Filipina.  This will be an outstanding chance for these youth.  Many have not be far beyond their village and none of them have been to a camp before.  What a blessing this will be for them.

CBC asks that you pray for Word Of Life, for those bringing the good news in Christ, the volunteers, and the children that they be touched by the good news and find and accept salvation through Jesus.
